Department of Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology at JJM Medical College was started in 1965 with inception of the college. It comprises of experienced faculty, post graduate students and technical staff working to impart quality preclinical and clinical education in pharmacology and therapeutics to medical undergraduate students and post graduate students. Pharmacology is a science that deals with all aspects of drugs and their interaction with living organism. The Department offers broad exposure and training in both basic and clinical research. The faculty and postgraduate are actively involved in basic research with many publications in various reputed national and International journals.

The departmental laboratories comprising of Experimental pharmacology lab, Pharmacy lab, Clinical pharmacology lab, Post graduate labs, are well-equipped in pursuit of learning and research. The department has state of the art animal house for proper housing and conduct of animal experiments. It also has an approved CPCSEA Institutional Animal Ethical Committee to supervise the animal experimentation. The department is also involved actively in the Pharmacovigilance program. Post graduation course was started in the department in the year 1977. Now, the department is offering 6 PG seats and all the seats are recognized by Medical Council of India as per vide letter No. NMC-50(22)/2013/med/103477 dated 14/09/2013. The post graduate students in this department are trained in various aspects like pharmacy, animal experimentation and clinical pharmacology along with all the concepts of pharmacology. Since its inception 67 post graduates have successfully completed the post graduation from this department. To the departments credit we have many RGUHS university rank holders, in the academic year 2013-14, Dr. Prashanth P and Dr. Navin A Patil who secured 5th and 6th ranks respectively and in the academic year 2014-2015, Dr. Keerthi Sagar J, secured 10th rank. As recent as 2018 Dr. Shruthi K secured 8th rank in MD Pharmacology. The department so far has trained numerous graduates and post graduate in the field of pharmacology and these students have gone on to distinguished careers in both academia and pharmaceutical industry.
