MBBS: Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery.

Duration: 4 ½ Years + One Year Compulsory Rotating Internship. Total Annual Intake: 245 The percent of seat sharing between Government of Karnataka and Management is in the ratio of 50:50 (Subject to Change).

Course of study Every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over 4 ½ academic years from the date of commencement of his/her study for the subject comprising a medical curriculum to the date of completion of the examination followed by one year compulsory rotating internship.

The 4 ½ years Course has been divided into three Phases.

  • Phase I – One year consisting of two terms of six months each
  • Phase II – One and half years consists of three terms of six months each
  • Phase III – Consists of seven terms after Phase – I. It runs concurrently with Phase – II and during Phase – II Para-clinical and clinical subjects will be taught concurrently

Subjects of Study Phase – I

  • Human Anatomy including Embryology & Histology
  • Human Physiology including Biophysics
  • Biochemistry

Subjects of Study Phase – II

  • Pathology – General and Systemic Pathology
  • Microbiology – Bacteriology, Parasitology, Virology, Mycology and Immunology
  • Pharamacology including Pharmacotherapeutics
  • Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

Phase – III is divided into two parts – Part I & II.

The subjects of Phase III – Part I are:

  • Community Medicine
  • Ophthalmology
  • Otorhinolaryngology

The subjects of Phase III – Part II are:

  • Medicine & its allied specialties which include General Medicine, Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, Dermatology & STD. Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis and infectious diseases, etc.
  • Pediatrics including Neonatology
  • Surgery & its allied specialties include General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery including Physiotherapy and rehabilitation, Anesthesia
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology including Family medicine & Family Welfare Planning

Assessment & Attendance

Internal Assessment:

It shall be based on evaluation of assignment, preparation of seminar, clinical presentations etc. Regular periodic examinations will be conducted throughout the course. There will be minimum three internal assessment for Phase I of the course and average of best two examination marks will be taken into consideration while calculating the marks for the internal assessment. Student has to secure a minimum of 35% marks in internal assessment (theory and practicals in each subject) to become eligible to appear for th university examination.

Pass Criteria:

  1. The student has to secure a minimum of 50% in the University conducted theory examination and University conducted viva-voce examination together (external).
  2. The student has to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the University conducted practicals/clinicals examination (external).
  3. The student has to secure 50% marks in aggregate (University examination marks + Internal Examination marks) in theory and practical/clinical examination (separately).
  4. Any student failed in a subject is required to appear for both the theory and practical/clinical again in the subsequent examination.

Attendance:

Every candidate should have attendance not less than 75% of the total classes conducted in theory and practicals calculated from the date of the commencement of the term to the last working day. A candidate lacking in the prescribed attendance and progres in any subject in theory or practicals will not be permitted to appear for the examination in that subject.
